Our Guest Speaker for the FEBRUARY Edition of The Lagos Oil Club Q+A Sessions is Mr. Tonye Cole, Managing Director/CEO, Sahara Group.Tonye Cole co-founded the Sahara Group in 1996 and within a decade, has led the Sahara Group from a company whose core business at the time was oil trading to become established as one of Nigeria’s leading Oil and Gas Company with business activities that span through the entire energy value chain.

An alumnus of the University of Lagos and Universidade de Brasilia, Brazil and an honours graduate in Architecture, Tonye Cole worked as an architect for a frontline Brazilian architectural firm, Grupo Quartro SA between 1990 and 1992. He returned to Nigeria in 1993 and spearheaded his architectural practice to which he successfully executed several multimillion dollar World Bank and ADB sponsored contracts.
He started out in 1996 with his friends, Tope Shonubi and Ade Odunsi to co-found Sahara Energy Resources Limited as an oil and gas company whose core business at the time was the trading of excess fuel oil from the Port Harcourt and Warri Refineries. Today, Sahara has grown to become a multinational company of repute with business offices spanning various continents, and business interests in areas like real estate, oil & gas upstream, midstream and downstream, bunkering, engineering services etc.
