TOPIC:
Recent discoveries has promulgated the nation’s status as an investment hub. In response to this transition, the Government in Q1 2011 developed a local content policy framework aimed at driving the sustainable development of Ghana’s petroleum development though training, capacity building, technological transfer and infrastructural development among others. This transition however, will come with its challenges, a major one being the optimal development of local skills as one avenue for enhancing the benefits of petroleum production. Coupled with the need to obtain the necessary skills now to meet the highly technical on-going operations has led to efforts to achieve the right balance between local content regulations, and company strategy that creates jobs and develops local skills competitiveness, whilst not undermining project delivery, revenue-raising for the State and returns to investing companies.
