About Community

This is a proudly African project with a strictly international focus on developing a cross-boundary & cross-disciplinary network of leading professionals in the Oil & Gas, Energy and Extractive Industries through community of practice and knowledge management. We are achieving growth by an infusion of contributions and innovations gathered from freshly ground talent and intellectually re-invigorated industry professionals- thus creating a Community of Practice with a refreshing and futuristic dimension.

There is a Business Sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility imperative for engagement among stakeholders on pertinent issues- particularly for capacity building- in the Oil & Gas, Energy and Extractive Industries. The focus of 'The Mix: Oil and Water!' is primarily Energy subject matter- 'no doubt or apologies about that. Oil and Gas are the major sources of fuel and energy in our day; as such the issues affecting the demand, supply, security of supply as well as alternative energy sources and uses are quite pertinent- given the finite nature of these resources and the business, legal, fiscal, geological and policy imperatives. It then follows that the professionals in this field and general society must take ownership of these issues by promoting discourse and knowledge intensity about Oil and Gas- Energy.

The aim of 'The Mix: Oil and Water!' is to develop a community of practice which will allow industry professionals to share and take up knowledge while giving the general-interest public a sense of how the oil and gas industry works on a GLOBAL scale; this necessarily forms part of the backbone of capacity development and the furtherance of the boundaries of knowledge. There is therefore an opportunity for corporate entities, companies and associations to adopt this community as a platform to interact with professionals and stakeholders within the Oil & Gas, Energy and Extractive Industries.
The blog-format will also feature knowledge sharing and discourse on Economic Policy, Business, Strategy, Venture Philanthropy, News and Art. These are generic-nature items which no industry can do without. As such, non-oil and gas industry professionals are welcome to participate equally; the themes may be oil and gas-centric but the principles are quite often generic and applicable in other fields of endeavour. This forum is YOURS!! Feel free to send in articles, general commentary on any of the above-listed subject matter (please send to themix@themixoilandwater.com). Once you do this, your professional profile will be featured on the 'Oil of Fame' page (Wall of Fame). Also, the blog will feature a lineup of 'Global Analysts' who are industry experts and passionate in an area of interest. Join the evolution!!

It is our desire to use this blog-format to enrich the discourse on all the aforementioned areas of endeavour and channel some people to the right information. The site will largely contain articles written by other people with links to the main websites or contact information about their work, however we may make our comments so as to stimulate discussion or to offer a critque. From time to time, we will put up entire pieces with our views and analyses. This is your opportunity to share what you know; this is your opportunity to resurrect your dead course works, research papers and management reports; THEY CAN LIVE FOREVER on this blog and in the minds of your readers.

We are all in the mix! Oil and water never mix as we all know but they may co-occupy a space...say an oil reservoir. Thus you will find us raising issues on venture philanthropy and the next moment we may talk about oil and gas; then again, you might find us writing about economics and policy within a particular context. Some of these topics may not complement each other however you will appreciate that in life, everything is connected one way or the other; let's call it the 'butterfly effect'. Our vision is to be the premier African community of practice platform that shapes capacity development on an international scale. Let's however separate the oil from the water as we explore what the world is saying about a variety of burning issues.

Thank you.
