Is Total right?
Energy giant Total has warned against drilling for crude oil in Arctic waters, according to a report in British newspaper the Financial Times. Total's chief executive, Christophe de Margerie, said damage caused by a potential oil spill in such an environmentally sensitive area would be disastrous. A 2008 study by the US Geological Survey found the Arctic Ocean contains more than a fifth of the world's unexploited, recoverable oil and gas resources.
