Mehoopany: Largest Wind Farm in Pennsylvania

Mehoopany Wind Farm, the largest in the state of Pennsylvania, began full commercial operation on December 30, 2012. The joint project of BP Wind Energy and Sempra U.S. Gas & Power represents a combined investment of approximately $250 million, creating over 400 jobs during the peak of construction.

The first mountaintop project that BP Wind Energy has undertaken, the Mehoopany Wind Farm is located on a 9,000-acre site about 20 miles northwest of Scranton. With 88 wind turbines, the project will deliver power to over 40,000 homes.

As the 5th joint venture between BP Wind Energy and Sempra U.S. Gas & Power, the wind farm marks an important milestone for the two partners, as well as the state of Pennsylvania.
